First Meeting to Organize Mexico Wellness Council held on June 24th
CRP held an informational meeting to organize the Workplace Wellness and Prevention Council of Mexico on June 24,
2009. We are pleased to announce the meeting was hosted by our Advisory Board member, the Carso Health
Institute.
At the suggestion of several of the companies we have been working with to develop the Council, as part of the first
meeting, we hosted a discussion where companies were briefed on the H1N1 flu crisis, and what companies can
expect in the coming months from health experts. We also discussed what specific prevention steps companies can
take in the workplace to prevent infection.
The Council a Forum for Member Companies
Over the last five years, though our work with companies in Mexico on important workplace health issues, we were
often asked to help our clients deal with the chronic diseases and conditions that cause poor health for their
employees, and that account for most of the spiraling health-care cost companies are struggling to contain.
As a response to those discussions, CRP has created the Workplace Wellness and Prevention Council of Mexico
which will utilize the latest technologies to help companies to develop, implement and evaluate workplace wellness
programs that target the major causes of poor health including diabetes, obesity, smoking, high blood pressure, high
cholesterol, and HIV. The Council will be a forum where member companies can share best practices, promote
prevention, and demonstrate their commitment to being socially responsible organizations.
Council Will Focus on Wellness Programs
A major objective of the Workplace Wellness Council is to provide member companies with detailed information about
workplace wellness programs that produce results for companies that use them. The Council will provide a forum
where these programs will be discussed, and have their results evaluated in a way that will allow member companies
to make informed decisions about what wellness programs they should consider implementing.
Our focus will be wellness programs and strategies that focus on the major causes of poor health and cost, for
example, diabetes, obesity, smoking, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and HIV.
Annual Workplace Wellness Conference
Along with our partners, CRP will host an annual conference on workplace wellness in Mexico and Latin America.
The annual conference will feature seminars on best practices, innovative wellness programs, and the latest
technologies - all with an underlying focus on two results - improved health and lower health costs. Academic
institutions and other groups focused on workplace wellness will be invited to present papers. Insurance companies,
employee benefits companies, and human resource experts will be invited to attend the conference as presenters and
sponsors.
A major highlight of the conference will be the presentation of the Annual Workplace Wellness and Prevention
Leadership awards which will be presented to companies that have demonstrated the best commitment to the
successful implementation of innovative, effective workplace wellness and prevention programs.
